The Beach
POMONTE has 3 beaches:
The Central Beach with large white granite pebbles. There is a boulder from which even small children can jump into the shallow water. This beach is more or less popular with families with children
The Wrecksand or "Shipwreck Beach", directly adjacent to "il Quartiere": this beach has owned its name because a merchant ship ran aground on the cliff off the beach in the early 1970s, sank there and was never recovered. The wreck is now part of the underwater world and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Just be "armed" with a mask and swim to the wreck, which is about 100m from the shore, to immerse yourself in a fascinating world. The wreck beach is equipped with a Bathhouse where you can rent umbrellas and sunbeds. There is also a small beach bar.
The rocks of il Calello: (“il calello” is a diminutive of “cala”). The mighty granite rocks once served as a protective bay for the small boats of winemakers and stonemasons who transported wine and granite. Today "il Calello" is the attraction for children and teenagers: you run and jump from a height of about 4 m into the crystal clear water. Fun for all spectators and for the little acrobats!
Pomonte is also a paradise for surfers thanks to the constant westerly winds in summer and international regattas are also held here.
The closest sandy beach is in Fetovaia, 4 km from Pomonte, with fine white sand.
